Forward Deployable Preventive Medicine Units (FDPMU)
1. Purpose. To issue the projected operational environment
(POE) and the required operational capabilities (ROC) for the
Navy forward deployable preventive medicine units (FDPMU).
2. Cancellation. OPNAVINST 3501.347.
3. Discussion. Enclosures (1) and (2) provide the necessary
details to describe the mission areas and operational
capabilities for which the Navy FDPMU was designed and organized
per reference (a). Additionally, reference (b) provides
specific guidance for the deployment of Navy Medicine assets.
This instruction provides the resource sponsor and operational
commander with the information they need concerning the Navy
FDPMU mission requirements, capabilities, and the types and
locations of expected operations.
4. Action. Fleet commanders and the Bureau of Medicine and
Surgery (BUMED) shall periodically review enclosures (1) and (2)
and recommend changes to the Office of the Chief of Naval
Operations, Medical Plans and Policy (N0931) when capability of
the Navy FDPMU is significantly altered. Change recommendations
should include comments on the expected fleet manpower document
(FMD) impact.
