1. Purpose. To reissue guidance regarding the design,
maintenance, use, and reproduction of the official Department of
the Navy (DON) Seal.
2. Cancellation. SECNAVINST 5030.4A.
3. Applicability. This instruction applies to the Office of
the Secretary of the Navy, the Chief of Naval Operations, the
Commandant of the Marine Corps, and all U.S. Navy and U.S.
Marine Corps installations, commands, activities, field offices,
and all other organizational entities within the DON.
4. Policy. The DON Seal is for official use only and is for
the exclusive use of the DON and the Department of Defense
(DoD). The symbolic significance and dignity of the DON Seal
requires complete uniformity in its design and reproduction.
Enclosure (1) officially establishes those characteristics for
its reproduction.
5. Responsibilities
a. The Chief of Naval Research (CNR) is responsible for:
(1) Maintaining precise artwork for the DON Seal, per
reference (a);
