1. Purpose. To publish the mission, functions and tasks of Commander, Naval Air Systems
Command (COMNAVAIRSYSCOM) issued under references (a) through (i). This instruction is
a complete revision and should be reviewed in its entirety.
2. Cancellation. OPNAVINST 5450.350A
3. Scope and Applicability. This instruction applies to Naval Air Systems Command
(NAVAIRSYSCOM), its subordinate commands and affiliated program executive officers
(PEO).
4. Mission
a. To research, develop, test, acquire, deliver and support timely, effective and sustainable
naval aircraft, weapons and related technology systems and equipment in support of the
operating forces to ensure the warfighter’s mission success and safe return home and to perform
such other functions and tasks as directed.
b. Deliver integrated air warfare capabilities to enable the fleet to compete, deter and win
tonight, tomorrow and in the future.
5. Status and Command Relationships. COMNAVAIRSYSCOM is a shore systems command
(SYSCOM) activity in an active (fully operational) status under a commander.
